Job Description

Praxair Research and Development is currently seeking a Senior Development Associate I - OTM Reactor Design in Tonawanda, NY.



You will be responsible for the engineering design of Oxygen Transport Membrane (OTM) reactors across the full application space: oxy-fuel combustion, syngas production and large scale oxygen production; coordinating effort with Alliance partners and the internal team to develop robust and efficient reactor geometries, with desired heat and mass transfer characteristics for each particular application; reporting to the Manager of the High Temperature Systems R&D group; working closely with OTM Module, Reactor and Systems-focused personnel, with objectives and deliverables set by the OTM program manager; working extensively with OTM Alliance partners to successfully realize designs and demonstration units; conceptualizing reactor geometries; developing and validating of designs using appropriate engineering simulation models; maintaining understanding of technical / intellectual property landscape around area of expertise; coordinating work with Alliance partners and key suppliers within the framework of program agreements; making definitive recommendations on best concepts and technologies to pursue; capturing opportunities for intellectual property around OTM reactor design and plant integration; establishing a core knowledge base of best practices, standards and codes for OTM reactor design; and delivering scale demonstration reactors through alliance partners and OEMs.


Requirements
To qualify, you must have an MS/PhD level in MechE/ChemE with at least 10-years of related experience in high temperature equipment and systems design. A skilled technical contributor with a proven tack record of successfully commercializing new technology, extensive experience in the engineering design of high temperature equipment especially as relates to thermal, fluid-processing and reaction systems and their computer modeling / simulation and have practical, hands-on experience of plant-scale high temperature equipment. Work well in a team, communicate your thoughts and take onboard the ideas of others. The following skills and experience are essential: heat transfer - especially radiative, fluid flow, mechanical design, engineering simulation - e.g. COMSOL Multiphysics, process modeling, CAD, high temperature systems and materials of construction. Worked in an engineering design role on technologies such as SOFC, catalytic reactors, industrial boilers and furnaces, process heaters, incinerators, high temperature heat exchangers, specializing in heat transfer or thermal design.
